These festivals promote a certain lifestyle,  fashion, wealth and see races contest multi-million dollar prize pools.

World’s Richest Horse Races

The Kentucky Derby - World-famous horse racing in the USA

The Kentucky Derby offers a prize purse of $3 million and although it's not one of the most valuable horse racing events on the annual calendar, it's a popular legacy event that started in 1875 and has a massive fan base with over 150,000 attending the racecourse.

The week is also known for its colourful fashion and a wide array of spectacular hats and outfits on display. Visitors can enjoy the Paddock Plaza,

Races usually start on the first Saturday of May at the Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. The most popular race is the US Triple Crown of Thoroughbreds and is nicknamed the “Greatest 2 Minutes in Sports.”

The week is full of festivities, as the race is the highlight of the Kentucky Derby Festival which also includes the Thunder Over Louisville (one of the largest annual fireworks displays, Hot-air balloon events, The Great Steamboat Race, and more.

Two major airports are nearby that facilitate most aircraft, the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF), and Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Royal Ascot - England

This famous UK-based event often attracts members from the Royal family, a tradition since it started in 1711. It is a key event on the social calendar, and the luxury festival offers fine dining, high-end fashion, and a $10 million purse to the winners on the track.

The five-day period of horse races at the Royal Ascot also attracts horses and jockeys from all around the planet and the event remains one of the top international horse racing events every year. The feature races are the Gold Cup, St James’s Palace Stakes, Queen Anne Stakes, Prince of Wales’s Stakes, Coronation Stakes and Golden Jubilee Stakes.

There are a number of premium enclosures accessible by VIP and invited guests which include the Royal Enclosure, Queen Anne Enclosure, Village, and Windsor Enclosures. Accessibility to all of these is not guaranteed but Royal Ascot offers upgrades “to create lifelong memories and share an experience with friends and family and uplift your experience of the Royal Meeting.”

The racecourse of course provides fine-dining, private tables and Michelin-starred chefs with exclusive restaurants across the enclosures.

There is a strict dress code, and “guests are invited to embrace with their own individual style and thus contribute to an occasion heralded internationally as a major fashion event” but the 2022 Style Guide will be released at a later date.

Qatar Prix De L'arc De Triomphe - Parisian Elegance

Regarded as one of the greatest sporting events and horse race meetings in the world, and held annually at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse, the Qatar Prix De L’arc De Triomphe sees the classic race winners from England, Ireland, France, Germany, and Italy compete just outside Paris - a perfect weekend getaway.

The continent's richest horse race attracts the social elite with the glitz and glamour of the event in the French capital. The main race event wins $3.2 million out of a total pool fund of $5.6M. The race also has a rich history - the "Arc" has been held for more than 150 years.

Taking place on the first Sunday in October, the Arc is the “definition of richness regarding horse racing events” and attendees are treated to live jazz music, champagne, and many other luxurious amenities.

At the racecourse, there are 75 boxes and 18 suites, with 10,000 seats in the Grandstand. The grounds were recently renovated and designed to improve the overall racing experience: with  180° views for optimum visibility. There are several premium and luxury packages with lounges in the Grandstand that offer a unique experience.

The Paris Longchamp Brasserie serves traditional brasserie dishes and business lunches, with DJ sets on the weekend. Alternatively, the Le Panorama restaurant provides stunning views and an eclectic menu, and the Chill Garden provides street food, cold beer and a chilled experience.

Japan Cup - Prestigious Horse Racing in Japan

The Japan Cup is also considered another prestigious horse racing event in Japan and traditionally starts on the last Sunday in November, so it's a perfect end-of-the-year horse racing spectacle.

Another event with a rich history, the Japan Cup has been running since 1981 at the Tokyo Racecourse located in Fuchu, Tokyo. The race is organised by the Japan Racing Association at a distance of 2400 metres with a prize purse of USD $5,8 million.

The Japan Cup does not allow more than 10 foreign-trained horses in the line-up despite the massive wealth up for grabs and it still attracts horses and riders from around the globe.

Spectators have excellent views of the races and access to dining in the Fuji View Grandstand and Memorial 60 Grandstand. With more than 100 bars and eateries at the racecourse, there are traditional local and international snacks to fine dining on the top floor. There are no official dress codes for visiting the racecourse.
